The Punjab School Education Board was established through a legislative enactment in November 1969 with the aim of advancing and enhancing school education in the state of Punjab. - To facilitate the smooth conduct of public examinations at the school level. Currently, the Board administers public examinations at Middle, Matriculation, and Senior Secondary levels.
- To establish the curriculum, courses of study, and textbooks for school education. The Board operates a dedicated academic division comprising subject matter experts in all major subjects. This division is chiefly responsible for regularly formulating and updating syllabi followed by the preparation of textbooks accordingly.
- To oversee the preparation, compilation, enhancement, publication, printing, and distribution of textbooks.
- To manage school affiliations with the Board.
- To work towards enhancing the quality of school education.
- To serve as an advisory body to the state government on matters concerning School Education.
